Backup Line Fall Arrestors should be used on your backup line when in vertical or near-vertical suspension.

Both the ASAP and the ASAP Lock are excellent devices but the ASAP Lock is much easier to use and worth the slight increase in cost.  For a complete setup you need an ASAP Sorber, a Bm'd carabiner and a Captiv.
